Brick Kiln Barns

in the heart of the Norfolk Broads

Dogs are welcome and stay free

2 dogs per barn

We welcome 2 dogs per cottage and we don't charge extra for them.

Want to bring more than 2?

We are happy to accommodate more depending on size and breed. Please contact us with your requirements.

How enclosed are the gardens?

Each barn has its own garden enclosed on all sides. Here’s the fine details for each barn:

The Long Barn

A mix of 6 and 4 ft closed board fencing and a 4 ft wrought iron gate through which the car park can be seen.

Wheelwrights

A mix of 6ft and 4ft closed board fencing with 3ft picket fencing along the boundary with the adjoining agricultural field.

No.1 & No.2

A 5ft wall and 4ft closed board fencing separates No.1’s and No.2’s gardens and 3ft picket fencing separates each garden from the communal field area. No.2 additionally benefits from a fully enclosed patio area off of the open plan living space which is predominantly enclosed by 3 ft picket fencing and some 6ft closed board fencing.

Where are dogs allowed?

Dogs are allowed in every room of every barn. We have leather sofas throughout (except on the mezzanine in Wheelwrights) and dogs are welcome to snuggle up with you. All we ask is that you bring your own clean throws for them.

If you want your dogs on the beds please bring your own bedding as getting those paw prints off our white bed linen is very difficult.

Dog towels:  We also ask that you bring your own dog towels (please note that leaving our high quality, fluffy white towels meant for guests covered in muddy paw prints and grass could incur an additional cleaning/replacement fee).

My dog's reactive

Because of the layout of our barns you will definitely encounter other guests and their dogs so unfortunately, we may not be the best place if your dog is reactive. Please contact us to discuss in more detail.

What about exempt breeds?

Because of the grouped nature of our barns we are unable to accommodate exempt breeds.

What about puppies?

All dogs must be toilet trained.

Can dogs be left unattended?

Dogs must not be left in the barns unattended unless they are crated and accustomed to being so.

Holiday homes are new and exciting environments but even the most well-behaved dog may experience anxiety or exhibit destructive behaviour (such as scratching doors or barking) when left alone in unfamiliar surroundings, especially as with 4 barns in one location there is always the chance of an unattended dog reacting to noise from a neighbouring barn.

We do not currently have crates for guests to borrow.

Is the additional field area fenced?

Our additional field area is a communal space for use by guests of all 4 barns.  No.1 and No.2 both enjoy views over, and gated access directly onto it but it is not a fenced ‘paddock’.At this time, we do not have crates for guests to borrow.

Is there livestock & wildlife?

We do regularly have rabbits, pheasants, muntjac deer and occasionally the neighbourhood cat visit the field area, albeit usually very much in the absence of 4 legged guests! In nearly 4 years we have only known the adjoining farm field viewed from Wheelwrights’ and No.2’s patios be used for agricultural crops.

What about fireworks?

We can’t offer any guarantees! but, Dilham is a small village and we have had guests stay over Bonfire nights, Halloween, New Year and during Diwali in our nearly 4 years of ownership without issue. If you are considering booking to escape fireworks I would encourage you to view our location on Google maps (links at the bottom of the page) to see where we are in relation to the rest of the village.

In the Long Barn, and our No.1 and No.2 barns you are able to turn up the TV or have music playing in the living areas reasonably loudly to block out any distant bangs as these do not share any adjoining walls with other properties.

Are there dog parks/fields nearby?

We have 5 suggestions within a 30 minute drive of the barns offering everything from safe enclosed paddocks to stimulating and fun activities:

Enclosed gardens and an additional exercise field

Each of our cottages has its own fully enclosed garden and we have an additional communal grassed field (not enclosed) for play and exercise - don't forget to fetch the ball!

Walkies!

You won't be short of options for walkies. We've got walks direct from the barns from the once round the block to the 7.7km Dilham and North Walsham Canal Circular which is popular with our guests. This can easily be extended to take in the section of the 61 mile long Weavers' Way from Tonnage Bridge to Honing Bridge.

On another day you can join the Weaver's Way at Honing Bridge one and half miles from the barns and walk towards North Walsham or Stalham.

On a hot day head for the 273 acres of shade provided by Bacton Wood for off leading walks just 4 miles from the barns or Pigneys Wood 6.5 miles from the barns.

To really cool off nothing beats a paddle in the North Sea and there are miles of golden sandy coastline where 4 legged companions can do just that with the beaches between Horsey Gap and Happisburgh all within a 20 minute drive.

Alternatively, opt for walking a cliff top section of the 83 mile long Norfolk Coast Path.

Mucky paws from all that paddling?

No problem, grab the shampoo and head to the Pooches' Paw Wash on the end of The Long Barn.

All spruced up and ready for another outing?

Head to the village pub a 10 minute stroll away where dogs are welcomed in the bar and garden.
